O turystycznych i wizualnych atrakcjach Tyńca pod Krakowem oraz jego okolicach można by długo opowiadać. A ponieważ dużo lepszym niż słowa środkiem takiej opowieści wydaje się być fotografia, dziś chciałem Was zabrać w fotograficzną podróż do tego pięknego miejsca.  Niegdyś Tyniec był podkrakowską wsią słynącą z benedyktyńskiego opactwa, rozpościerającego się na wapiennej skale i przeglądającego się od wieków w wodach Wisły. Dziś znajduje się on w granicach administracyjnych miasta Krakowa i z Krakowem pozostaje od dawna historycznie oraz kulturowo mocno powiązany.

Tyniec od zawsze przyciągał wędrowców. Dziś nadal to robi, kusząc różnymi atrakcjami, ale nade wszystko pięknem krajobrazu, architekturą, niepowtarzalnym klimatem i spokojem, rodem jakby z innego świata. Amatorzy sportów rowerowych, wspinaczek skałkowych i biegania także – podobnie jak ja – znajdą tu raj dla siebie. Mam ogromną przyjemność być w Tyńcu często, a te wizyty nie przestały i pewnie nigdy nie przestaną mnie cieszyć.

The tourist and visual attractions of Tyniec located near Cracow and its surroundings could be the subject of a long story to tell. And since photographs seem to offer a lot better means of telling this story than the words, now I’d like to take you on a short photographic trip to this beautiful place.

Once Tyniec was a village situated near Cracow, but rather very unusual village, famous for many centuries for its Benedictine abbey, extending up the limestone rock and all the time looking at itself, like in the big mirror, in the waters of the Vistula river. Today it is located within the administrative boundaries of the Cracow city and remains for a long time historically and culturally strongly linked with Cracow.

Tyniec has always attracted wanderers and still continues to do this, tempting them by many diverse attractions – but above all – by the beauty of its landscape, architecture, unique and peace&quiet atmosphere, like deriving straight from another world.  Amateur of cycling, rock climbing and running – like me – will also find here a paradise for themselves. I have the great pleasure to be in Tyniec pretty often and these visits haven’t ceased and probably will never cease to enjoy me.

Opactwo w Tyńcu położone jest na wapiennym wzgórzu i – jako że góruje nad okolicą – prezentuje się okazale z wielu okolicznych miejsc. Ta fotografia została wykonana z przeciwległego brzegu Wisły, z miejscowości Piekary, gdzie swego czasu w jaskiniach wzgórza zwanego Kozierówką znaleziono ślady życia, w postaci naczyń i innych przedmiotów codziennego użytku, prehistorycznego człowieka.

The old Abbey in Tyniec is situated on a limestone hill and – as it towers over its surroundings – it looks impressive from many closer or further places around. This photograph was taken from the opposite bank of the river, exactly from Piekary village, where in the caves of the hill called Kozierówka some traces of prehistoric man have been identified.

W sąsiedztwie Tyńca znajdują się krakowskie Bielany, a ich charakterystycznym motywem widokowym są trzy białe wieże kościoła we wciąż czynnym klasztorze Kamedułów. Ale Bielany to temat na oddzielny artykuł.

In the vicinity of Tyniec, Bielany village is situated with characteristic motif in the form of three white towers of the still active monastery cloister. But Bielany is a topic for a separate article.

Spokój tego miejsca sprzyja relaksowaniu się na spacerach po wałach wiślanych.

Peace and quiet of this place encourages to walking alongside the banks of the Vistula River.

Piękna w Tyńcu jest zwłaszcza jesień. Po trochę bardziej gwarnym okresie wakacyjnym, nastaje wtedy cisza, którą czasem przerywa jedynie jakiś wodny ptak na Wiśle, dźwięczny odgłos klasztornego dzwonu albo szum wiatru.

The autumn used to be especially beautiful in Tyniec. After a little more noisy holiday season, then comes the silence, interrupted only from time to time by some kind of a water bird on the Vistula River, sonorous sound of the monastery bell or sound of the wind.

Klasztor przegląda się w wodach Wisły już od ponad 600 lat.

The monastery looks at the mirror of the Vistula River waters for over 600 years.

Przekraczając główną bramę Opactwa, wchodzimy na zewnętrzny dziedziniec, by przez kolejną bramę pod pawilonem tzw. Opatówki zwanej zamkiem, wejść na dużo obszerniejszy dziedziniec wewnętrzny. Po odrestaurowaniu południowej części zabudowań klasztornego wzgórza, czyli gmachu średniowiecznej biblioteki i uporządkowaniu terenu, teraz dziedziniec prezentuje się pięknie.

Crossing the main gate of the Abbey, we enter the outer court of the monastery and then pass through the next gate under the Opatówka building (called also the castle) and finally go to the much more spacious internal courtyard. After the restoration of the southern part of the monastic buildings (medieval library) and some rearrangements of the courtyard area, now it presents itself beautifully.

Na zdjęciu widać bramę oraz częściowo zrekonstruowany mur chroniący Opactwo przed dokuczliwymi wiatrami z zachodu, spełniający niegdyś także funkcje obronne. Został zresztą poważnie uszkodzony w czasie Konfederacji Barskiej przez wojska Suworowa.

In the picture you can see the internal gate and partially reconstructed wall which protects against troublesome winds from the west, once playing also a defensive function. It was, by the way, seriously damaged during the Bar Confederation by the Suvorov army.

Warto zatrzymać się choć na moment na dziedzińcu, usiąść na ławeczce i – wsłuchawszy się w ciszę – kontemplować piękno tego miejsca.

It is worth stopping here in the courtyard even for a moment, sit on the bench, enjoy the silence and contemplate the beauty of the place.

Na dziedzińcu znajdziecie między innymi owianą legendą, starą drewnianą studnię kołowrotową. Jej lustro wody znajduje się na poziomie płynącej nieopodal Wisły.

In the courtyard you will find – among other things – legendary wooden, well turnstiles. The surface of its water is at the same level as in nearby Vistula River.

Za furtą kryją się zabytkowe wnętrza klasztorne w tym przepiękne krużganki. Oko uważnego obserwatora odkryje w ich murach ślady jeszcze romańskie, jak choćby tzw. portal romański widoczny na zdjęciu.

Behind the monastery wicket, the beautiful, historical interiors of the cloister are hidden. The eye of a careful observer will discover in their walls even Roman style fragments, such as so-called. Romanesque portal, visible on this picture.

Ogromne wrażenie robią gotyckie sklepienia krużganków. Krużganki, to iście magiczne miejsce. Cisza, która tu panuje sprawia, że słyszysz nawet swój własny oddech.

The Gothic cloister vaults are especially impressive. The ambulatory of the cloisters is a truly magical place. The silence that prevails here makes that you can even hear your own breathing.

Spacerując po tynieckim Opactwie, warto czasem skoncentrować się na detalach, bo one także w znacznym stopniu współtworzą klimat tego miejsca.

Walking through Tyniec Abbey, it is worth to focus also on the details, because they are largely participating in creation of the atmosphere of this place.

Piękny widok rozciąga się ze skały zwanej „cyplem”. Jednak możecie nie mieć okazji, by tam się dostać. Ja miałem przyjemność zostać zaproszony na cypel przez bardzo gościnnych gospodarzy klasztoru.

The breathtaking view on the monastery vicinity is spreading over from the rock called „cypel”. However, you may not have the opportunity to get there. I had the pleasure to be invited there by very hospitable hosts of the monastery.

Imponująco prezentuje się także klasztorny gmach, w których mają swoje cele tutejsi mnisi.

The parts of monastery buildings where the monks have their cells are also impressive.

Jeśli kiedykolwiek będziecie mieli okazję pospacerować po klasztornych ogrodach, to – zapewniam Was – naprawdę warto.

Zimową porą wcześnie zapada zmrok, a po zmroku zapalają się w Opactwie latarnie, które – jak to zwykle latarnie – kreują piękny nastrój.
