Średniowieczne Opactwo Benedyktynów w Tyńcu stoi od lat, majestatycznie rozpostarte, na szczycie wapiennego wzgórza, u którego podnóża płynie Wisła. Kto choć raz tu zawitał, będzie pewnie wielokrotnie wracał, kiedy tylko zdarzy się ku temu sposobność. Ma zagwarantowane, że tu zawsze znajdzie coś, co w czasach gorączkowego pośpiechu stało się niestety luksusem – magiczny spokój sprzyjający odpoczynkowi i ‘pozbieraniu myśli’. Atmosfera spokoju, obok pięknych widoków,  jest nieodłącznym atrybutem tego miejsca. By się o tym przekonać, starczy usiąść na chwilę w półmroku krużganków lub choćby przycupnąć na ławeczce na dziedzińcu klasztornym, albo po prostu zatrzymać się na chwilę, w klasztorze lub gdziekolwiek w jego przepięknej okolicy, puścić cugle wyobraźni i chłonąć piękno tego miejsca całym sobą, wszystkimi swoimi zmysłami.

Lecz, choć sam klasztor jest wart uwagi i niejednej wizyty, to jego malownicze okolice także działają niczym magnes, przyciągając entuzjastów długich spacerów, biegania i jazdy na rowerku. Lepsze miejsca, sprzyjające tego typu aktywnościom, trudno gdziekolwiek znaleźć. Mam tu na myśli nie tylko miejscowość Tyniec, ale jej bliższe lub dalsze okolice, a w szczególności wspaniałe, porośnięte lasami liściastymi Podgórki Tynieckie – kolorowe, pachnące, pełne ścieżek i wapiennych wzgórz z polankami widokowymi na Kraków i okolice.

Czasem bywa tak, że kiedy te wszystkie piękne miejsca ma się w odległości spacerowej, to wielu ludzi przyzwyczaja się do tego i traktuje jako coś normalnego, danego raz na zawsze. Nie widzi w tym wyjątkowości i ogromnej wartości. Tymczasem, mieć taką perełkę w zasięgu spaceru, to wielki skarb, a możliwość bywania tu często, to dodatkowy przywilej. Wiadomo jednak, że o każdą cenną rzecz trzeba dbać. Czasem niestety nie widać tej troski, bo tu i ówdzie w lesie można natknąć się na przykład na wyrzucone butelki plastikowe i inne śmieci. Zachęcam do tego, co sam często stosuję – warto czasem podnieść coś takiego i wrzucić do koszy, których nie brakuje przy ścieżkach albo zabrać w worku, włożyć do bagażnika w samochodzie i wyrzucić gdzieś, gdzie cywilizowani ludzie zwykli pozostawiać śmieci. Cytując słowa Gandhiego: „Bądźmy zmianą, którą chcemy widzieć w innych”. Jeśli w mądry sposób będziemy korzystać z tych pięknych miejsc, to uda nam się zachować je w dobrym stanie na zawsze.

Medieval Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec stands over the years, spread majestically on top of a limestone hill which has the Vistula River at its foot. Whoever has arrived here once, will probably come back soon repeatedly, when any opportunity only happens, having guaranteed that he or she will always find a peace and quiet here, something which has become a real luxury in a time of feverish haste.

A magical tranquility is – without a doubt – conducive to rest and ‚put the thoughts together’. The atmosphere of calm, next to the beautiful views, is an inherent attribute of this place. To be convinced of this enough, just sit down for a moment in the dim of cloisters or even on a bench in the courtyard of the monastery. Maybe just stop for a moment, in a monastery or anywhere in the beautiful surroundings, let go of imagination and soak up the beauty of this place by all of your senses.

But, though the monastery is worth of attention and visiting, its picturesque surroundings also act like a magnet, attracting enthusiasts of long walks, jogging and riding a bike. To be honest, any other better places suitable for this type of activities is hard to find anywhere. I have in mind not only  Tyniec itself, but its closer or further surroundings, particularly Podgórki Tynieckie – colorful, fragrant, full of walking paths and limestone hills with clearings to view of Krakow and its vicinity.

When all these beautiful places are in walking distance, it sometimes happens, that many people get used to this and treated as normal, given once and for all. They don’t see their uniqueness and great value. Meanwhile, having such a gem within walking distance is a great treasure and the possibility of being here frequently is for sure an additional privilege.

It is known, however, that for every valuable thing you have to take care of. Sometimes, unfortunately, you cannot see that this is a concern for some kind of people, because here and there in the forest you can come across, for example, discarded plastic bottles and other garbage. I encourage you to do what I used to do – maybe it is worth sometimes pick up a plastic bottle or other kind of junk and put them into the baskets, which is located along the paths or take in a bag, put into the trunk of the car and throw somewhere where civilized people tend to leave garbage.

In the words of Gandhi: „Let us be the change we want to see in others.” If we’ll use these beautiful places in the smart way, we can keep them in a good condition forever.
